Welcome to City Sixth Form Centre
As Centre Principal, I would like to thank you for your interest in City Sixth Form Centre. I hope that you find this brochure informative and that it will encourage you to study with us. We have a great centre, with superb staff and we will ensure that you succeed.
The centre offers a wide range of vocational courses and has a history of success including a 100% pass rate at advanced vocational level. The centre broadened its course offer for 2012 and new courses include hairdressing, beauty therapy and catering. For 2013 more courses will be offered at the centre including plastering, civil engineering, public services, bicycle maintenance and health & social care. The centre will continue to offer a wide range of construction courses which it has delivered for many years. As well as the range of courses open to school leavers, we also offer courses that provide the next step after college. Whether you want to progress on to an apprenticeship, HNC or Level 3+ course we can ensure that you can continue with your education with the same great tutors and in the same supportive environment.
The sixth form is a hub for vocational learning and our staff will ensure that you are trained to industry standard to give you the best opportunity to gain employment. Our links with a range of employers will give you the best information and opportunities possible. In 2011 and 2012 our students showcased at WorldSkillsUK. This is one example of how our students can showcase their skills and be recognised for the outstanding work and achievements that they are gaining from their studies. It is an honour for the college to attend these prestigious events. All of the students take part in projects and community work including painting local community centres, building work for Manchester United and building benches for the local community space.
Our hairdressing, beauty therapy and catering students gain valuable work experience within the facilities at the college and attend prestigious work placements, giving them the opportunity to impress potential employers. They also host special events such as pamper days and theme nights.
It is not all work - our students have many enrichment and fun events that they can join, and this includes trips, visits, visiting speakers and fun days. In addition we have a range of superb facilities including a well-stocked resource centre to help you with your studies, a snooker academy with three full size snooker tables and social areas.
To help support students we have free colleges buses from a number of areas and depending on your household income, you could get up to £20 per week. There is also study support to help you with your work or any problems that you may have.
We hope that you will come along and see us at the City Sixth Form Centre and see what our centre has to offer you. In the meantime you can find out more on our Facebook page, which includes lots of photos of our facilities and activities that students have been involved in.
